Yvonne Alting
Yvonne Alting (Barendrecht, 1959)
My inspiration comes from Japanese art, in particular by the way it values the purity of the materials and the simplicity of shape. I am constantly looking for a balance in my work. This balance evolves in time thus creating series of artefacts related to each other. The results can be regarded as graphics or contemporary paintings with colour schemes varying from black to natural tints.
The majority of my work consists of a variety of materials combined into three dimensional flat layers.
I use natural materials such as wooden sticks, cardboard, paper, textiles and very fine fabrics supported by metals like copper and grinded aluminium. All these materials are fused together using glue and or transparant nylon threat in a subtle manner. Using this technique invites the spectator to have a closer look at the compositions.
My theme at de moment is figurative: Japanese herons. After a period of more abstracting landshapes: where my work refers to nature in the shape of sand dunes and water views, with their natural accents of rhythm and movements.
